A special unveiling, a one-of-a-kind keepsake and exclusive insider’s content are all on tap for the next “TrackTown Tuesday” event at the Downtown Athletic Club on April 8.
Be the first to know the latest scoop on the single greatest championship season of track and field in Hayward Field history.
The free one-hour show begins at 7 p.m.
Doors open to the public at 6 p.m. Appetizers will be available for purchase and $3 will get you a pint of beer poured by Hop Valley Brewing Company. Free parking can be found at the adjacent Overpark with no validation required after 5 p.m.
Besides getting a behind-the-scenes look at the buildup to the IAAF World Junior Championships at Hayward Field this July, there will be a full lineup of guest speakers, plus exciting video from the Pepsi dual meet against Arizona.
TrackTown USA president Vin Lananna will serve as host of the festivities and former University of Oregon three-sport standout Jordan Kent will be the master of ceremonies.
The evening’s featured athlete will be Oregon Track Club Elite’s Jesse Williams, a two-time Olympian and World Championship gold medalist in the high jump.
The North Carolina native and USC graduate was the recipient of the prestigious 2011 Jesse Owens Award, USA Track & Field’s highest accolade, which is bestowed on an annual basis to the most outstanding U.S. male and female track and field athletes.
Last Friday, in only his second outdoor appearance of the season, Williams cleared 7-5 at the Sam Adams Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif.
In keeping with the “hops” theme, Oregon high jumper Lauren Crockett will be on hand, along with her position coach, UO assistant Jamie Cook. Crockett, out of Ogden, Utah, stands tied for third overall on the all-time Duck list with a personal best clearance of 6 feet, ½ inch, which she achieved at the UO Preview earlier this season.
As always, there will be random prize drawings for tickets to the NCAA Championships, June 11-14, and the IAAF World Junior Championships, July 22-27.
The next “TrackTown Tuesday” will be May 6 at the Downtown Athletic Club.
Don’t forget: This year promises to be the greatest season of track and field ever staged at Hayward Field. You can purchase tickets for the NCAA Championships and IAAF World Junior Championships at goducks.com/tracktickets or Oregon14.com.
