EUGENE, Ore. – Over 500 high school track and field athletes representing 137 communities and five states will get the opportunity to perform in a world class venue on Friday and Saturday during the Portland Indoor Track Classic at the Oregon Convention Center.
Portland is the host city for the 2016 USATF Indoor Championships and the Portland Indoor Track Classic, featuring top high school runners, jumpers, and throwers, is sandwiched into that meet.
The PITC will feature outstanding competition in all six events on the schedule. Stanford-bound Ella Donaghu, a local distance standout from Portland’s Grant High School, is the headliner in the girls mile on Friday night. Donaghu is expected to be pushed as seven girls are entered with seed times under five minutes with Donaghu’s 4:40 leading the way.
The boys 60-meter dash on Friday has most of the top sprinters from Oregon and the boys 800 meters on Saturday includes 17 athletes with qualifying times under 2:00, led by Washington’s Nathan Pixler.
The Portland Indoor Track Classic begins Friday at 7 p.m. after the conclusion of the opening day of competition at the USATF Indoor Championships. It finishes on Saturday morning before the final day of the USATF Indoor Championships gets under way.
There will be no admission fee for spectators at the PITC and all athletes and coaches will be admitted free with their meet credentials. Athletes and coaches will also receive free admission into the USATF Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday.
