EUGENE, Ore. – TrackTown USA, the local organizing committee for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field, is pleased to announce that it has formed a partnership with King Estate Winery for a distinctive dual role this July.
King Estate Winery has partnered with TrackTown USA to be the official wine sponsor at the Fan Festival throughout the Trials, July 1-10, at historic Hayward Field.
In addition, the picturesque organic vineyard, located 22 miles southwest of Eugene, will host the Heritage Athlete Celebration in which 27 former track and field greats will attend a private event in their honor on the evening of July 2 at King Estate.
“We are proud to announce that the King family will host the Heritage Athlete Celebration and be our official wine sponsor,” said TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna. “King Estate Winery is an important national partner and we are pleased to feature their outstanding product in the Fan Festival for the duration of the event.”
Similar to the past two U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials in 2008 and ’12, the popular Fan Festival will be staged on the turf fields behind the West Grandstand at Hayward Field. It will be free to the public and feature a large videoboard showing all of the action at the meet, plus live entertainment, youth activations, merchandise, food and beverages.
The Heritage Athlete Celebration will pay tribute to past greats in the sport who achieved remarkable success at the 1972, ’76 and ’80 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials. They will also be honored during the Opening Ceremony of the Trials on July 1 at 3 p.m. at Hayward Field as well as daily recognition throughout the meet.
“Track and field is a global sport which has a longstanding presence in our community,” said CEO Ed King, who co-founded the vineyard in 1991. “King Estate is honored to play a role in the success with TrackTown USA as we welcome America’s best track and field athletes to this world-class meet.”
