EUGENE, Ore. – What happens when innovation and aspiration intersect with the sport of track and field?
It’s called the TrackTown Summer Series.
The new professional track and field league will provide top American athletes with a unique opportunity to compete on U.S. soil during the summer months; a rare chance to build their individual brands in front of American fans; and finally, the prospect to earn a substantial paycheck.
And it will all be televised live on ESPN!
The TrackTown Summer Series makes its highly anticipated debut on Friday evening, July 29 at Hayward Field with an exciting four-team competition. The meet will feature 144 athletes representing teams from Portland, San Francisco, Philadelphia and New York City. Each squad will carry 36 athletes on its roster, split evenly between men and women, with competitors battling for prize money and additional benefits in excess of a half-million dollars.
The four teams will be chosen via a combination of a June 25 athlete draft and free agency. Athletes can register for the draft on June 1-15 online at gotracktownusa.com.
The TrackTown Summer Series will also connect recreational runners and walkers with some of the best distance runners in the country!
One of the events – the 4-mile road race – will be open to the public. Each person who signs up for the race will be assigned to a team and given a t-shirt to fly their team colors. The road race course includes a section on the famed Hayward Field track.
The TrackTown Summer Series will expand in each of the next two seasons.
